Osteoporosis is a disease that affects the bones as a result of losing bone material or not producing enough bone tissue. This results in weak and brittle bones which are liable to fracture with little force. It can happen due to hormonal changes such as menopause but in some cases it can be sued to a deficiency of calcium or vitamin D. There are usually no symptoms. However, when the bone becomes too weak it may fracture. Back pain may be felt due to the presence of a collapsed or fractured vertebra. There is usually no pain until the fracture occurs. The most common sites of osteoporosis are the back, hips, and legs.
